Sport plays a special role in social policy of UMMC, and it is considered to be a part of corporate culture. Entertaining competitions “UMMC family”, which are organized among employees and members of their families within the companies of the Group, have become regular and favorite.
Not only such national conventional sports as basketball, volleyball, skiing, hockey, athletics, football, swimming and tennis, but also rather new kinds of sports, such as fitness and bodybuilding, martial arts, sailing are actively being developed and encouraged at Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company nowadays. For the most of these sports UMMC athletes win prize places in Russian and international competitions.
Every year sport competitions are organized among employees of UMMC plants. Traditionally, about 20% of the Group employees – from workers to the management team take part in these very sport contests.
“UMMC” basketball club
It is Europe champion of 2003, ranked as one of the most successful Europe team and certainly a key sport proud of the Group.
Since 2000, when UMMC took over the Ural leading women basketball team under its patronage, this club has made almost impossible. “UMMC” won National Championship in 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2011. In 2003 due to phenomenal winning over French team “Olympic” in the finals of the Euroleague, “UMMC” became the strongest team of the continent for the first time in history of Russian women basketball. Good few of the first players of the “UMMC” team shared the status of world vice-champions playing for the national team in 2002. In 2003 four “UMMC” basketball players became Europe champions for the first time of Russian basketball. Reference list of the Club demonstrates winning in Russian Cup in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and silver (2004, 2006, 2008) and silver in internal championship (2004, 2006) and bronze (2005, 2007, 2008) awards in national competitions, the Euroleague (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) and World league FIBA (2007).
It is a matter of honour for the company’s employees to support UMMC team. Favorite team is supported by everybody in the Group without exceptions: from General Director to the worker.
It is not surprising that UMMC's employees led by Andrey Kozitsyn form the most active supporting group at local games of the Club. The special supporting groups, which include the workers from the Group’s companies, are usual for the important games.
“UMMC” Basketball Club raises a new generation of junior basketball players and trains them for reserve of Russia and Super League. “UMMC” junior team, future reserve for the current first players, shows successful results in the High League of Russian Championship. The team’s symbol is a fox which turned up in the middle of 1990s. Its prototype is a legendary player of the Club, current coacher of the team, Olga Korosteleva, who was recognized as the most skilful basketball player of the Soviet Union.

Children’s and Youth Sport School “Leader” (Sambo)
In a short span of developing Sambo, the martial art school in Verkhnyaya Pyshma has become one of the best schools leaving behind Moscow, Perm, and Nizhny Novgorod. In the martial art school in Verkhnyaya Pyshma 350 fighters of various age are trained by two honored coachers of Russia, Valery Stennikov and Alexander Melnikov, and by other five coaches of high category.
At the present Club of Sambo and Judo in Verkhnyaya Pyshma is represented by repeated winners of World, Europe, Asia and National Championships, owners of Cup of Russia. Club fighters, Timur Gallyamov and Ilya Khlybov are double winners of World Championship, Alsim Chernoskulov is a winner of World and Europe Championships, Dmitry Lebedev is a triple winner of European Championships.
Worthy reputation of the club is acknowledged by its own sport school for children and juniors with special sport center, a martial art section in Verkhnyaya Pyshma children's home-school created in 1999 for blind and poor vision children, who are the repeated winners of World and Europe championships for athletes with vision disturbance, and winners of International games for disabled people and Paralympics Games.
“UMMC” Table Tennis Club
“UMMC” table tennis club was recognized in September of 2007 after being announced in the international tournament held in Sochi. Tennis-players from the Middle Ural took all four prize places. Vladimir Beloglazov, Director on General Matters of UMMC Group and President of the Club formally presented it on September 18, 2007.
At the same time Executive Committee of Russian Table Tennis Federation took decision to include a new tennis club into a list of 14 teams participating in Russian championship in Super League among men.
Next year “UMMC” was a bronze prize-winner of Russia championship 2007-2008 and National Cup of 2008. In 2008-2009 “UMMC” took part in the international event, the Cup of European Champions “ETTU CUP”. At the end of the second season of the club competition “UMMC” became a silver winner of the Russian championship and Cup of Russia.
In 2009-2010 the club “UMMC” for the first time ever won the club competition of Russia on table tennis among the teams of Premier League. At the same time the players became silver winners of the Cup of Russia and finalists of League of European champions.
The representative of UMMC Club, Alexander Shibaev, was the first Russian silver winner of Super Cup Europe-2010 on table tennis.
The best tennis players of the world and Russia play for the “UMMC” table tennis club in the season 2010-2011: Chen Qi, champion of the Olympic games and world champion; Zoran Primorac, a prizewinner of the Olympic games, repeated winner of world and European competitions, the winner of the club tournament in Russia on table tennis and the player of “UMMC”, Michael Maze, the champion of Europe; Hao Shuai, a prizewinner of world championship; Georgy Vlasov, a repeated winner of Russia tournaments on table tennis, a winner of Club competition in Russia as a player of “UMMC”, a player of Russia team; Alexander Shibaev, a winner of national championship for athletes under 18 years old, silver winner of Europe competition for athletes under 18 years old, a winner of a Summer Sports Contest for youth, a player of a national team.
Sergey Vlasov, Head coach of Russian table tennis team, and Tatiana Kutergina (Ferdman), World Champion of 1975 in double and single/double, are the technique-masters of the team.
