Economy
Structurally ferrous industry occupies leading position in the region that accounts for over 50% of the output. Its share was 37.8% in 1991, and 59.3% in 2003. The second place belongs to the machine-building (up to 1/6). Share of machine-building and semi-fabricated goods was 30.0% in 1991 and 15.2% in 2003. These industries together with non-ferrous metallurgy account for 3/6 of the total industrial output.
Machine-building sphere uses its own metal that facilitates to keep its metal intensity, which is less than in Sverdlovsk region. They produce tractors, trucks, tram cars, process equipment, rocket-space equipment and electrical devices.
Power industry comprises mining of brown coal and a number of high capacity thermal power stations.
